The duration depends on the battery in the car, the capacity and the settings of the charging station and the capacity in the meter cupboard. Plug-in hybrid cars need 1 to 4 hours to fully charge the battery. Fully electric cars must charge for at least 4 to 8 hours, but this is highly dependent on the other devices in the house.
On average, cars are at home for 14 hours and 8 hours at work. If you have access to a charging station both at home and at work, there is plenty of time to fully charge your car.
You can charge the car in three ways:
- At a socket Keep in mind that you need a special charging cable.
- On an EV charger. This is preferable to an outlet. For more information, read our support article.
- On a fast charger. These chargers are mainly public chargers. Keep in mind that they can charge the car up to 80%.
